After visiting the beautiful aquarium, we drove up further north on the Okinawan mainland. We were determined to reach the northern tip of the island – Cape Hedo! Along the way, we dropped by Okuma Beach.
Destination 3: Okuma Beach
Cape Hedo is just 30 minutes north of Okuma Beach. I’m not sure what made me select this beach to visit out of the many beaches, but it is definitely worth a visit! There is a private beach belonging to the resorts, but a little bit further away, you get the same sandy beaches and definitely quieter. Parking is free (like most parts in Okinawa).
As sunset was getting nearer, we managed to capture the beautiful glistening waters.
TIP: Always know what time the sun sets on that day. It’ll be great to be on higher ground or along the beach to view the sun dipping below the horizon. The other alternative is to wake up early and catch the sunrise!
Destination 4: Cape Hedo
By the time we had a move on, we were super duper close to sunset. Upon reaching Cape Hedo, we realised that the cape had better views towards sunrises! Oh no!
We managed to capture the beautiful Cape Hedo – albeit it was rather rushed. Sunsets (and sunrises) were definitely one of our objectives to accomplish. I definitely wished that daylight hours were longer to let us enjoy the beautiful places in Okinawa!
I believe that like many vantage points that face the sunrises or sunsets have different folk tales. I wished that I knew what the local folk tales were – it would definitely have been rather interesting to know!
Destination 5: Random Viewing Spot
After that, we quickly drove off from Cape Hedo southwards. We wanted to catch the sunset, and stopped by a random viewing point along the road. There were many!
Unfortunately, it was rather cloudy. 🙁
Despite the unfavourable weather for a majestic sunset, we still enjoyed the cool breeze. There were a few other Japanese at the same rest spot, hoping for a nice sunset. But the above was all we got.
Soon, it was time for us to head back to our hotel – Centurion Hotel Resort Okinawa. Tomorrow was going to be a hectic day (in a separate post), where we will explore a little bit of Ie Island!
